Construction: Editing stage 2

First time editing
This is are first downloaded editing of our music video. First of all, we ended up not using the old couple as we couldn't fit it in quick enough with the rest of the video. As you can see already from the first edit, there are some parts that run smoothly than others. We haven't used that many transitions 19-29 seconds but we will think of using some if the timing is on time just so it runs more smoothly. We haven't gone with our story board exactly as from 33 seconds we were originally supposed to have the leaves falling to show summer finishing but we thought that the video was a bit 'random' and the colour transition would effect that. We were also supposed to have the scene when she's 'tip toeing' trying to balance with the second verse but we felt that it fitted here to because we didn't have to follow lyric by lyric. When the concerts scenes begin you can see that we jump cut to different shots within in it, this is because we realised that the lip sync was off slightly so we had to compromise what chorus scene we should use. It would also be a good idea to use transition at the beginning of the concert scenes. At 1.05 seconds you can see the birds flying above the pond, this was a good shot to use at this point as it went with the lyrics. You can see that we changed the storyboard idea from a butterfly to a bird although from some audience feedback, people thought that the bird was effective. From 1.09-1.11 you can see that the sip sync is once again is not the same. We are working on changing that though. From 1.13-1.16 seconds we used jump cuts to show the wine disappearing, this was the most simple part to edit as it followed our story board quite clearly, we used an effective 'tilt upwards' camera movement to show Genelle's reaction which seems calm but disappointed. We are going to use a transition on some parts after the 'wine scene,' such as when she is on the swings and then when it cuts to the close up of the book burning. We had to use the scenes of Genelle walking to the bridge and her on the swings to fill out some of the gaps of the music video were we didn't have an appropriate scene to cover. You could argue that this creates a opposition between the scenes in the park and the song lyrics at that point. We will also have to take out the actual sound of the video at 1.26 seconds.
Unfortunately, we don't have the wine scenes to show you on print sceen, but I would say that they were the most straight forward to edit out of the rest of the video as we had originally planned from the story board. To show the wine becoming less and less in the glass we used 'jump cuts' and it work very effectively too from the audience feedback that we got.

Editing process carried on

11. Here we have added a transition, a circle to introduce the band for the first time.

12. We could not use a transition here into the next scene as it effected the timing. Although it was suggested by the audience.

13. A pan did not work here as it slowed down everything else therefore we took it out of the close up of the tambourine.

14. There was a random zoom in this clip so we had to be careful whether to include it or not as we already had limited footage of the 'band scenes'.

15. Here we have slowed down the clip of the birds flying to give it a better effect as before it was too fast.

16. We added a quick shot of the squirrel jumping up the tree as it still went with the 'nature' theme. When we asked three of the audience members what they thought of the video so far they said they in particular liked the 'wine scene' and the 'squirrel' as it looked 'different' and 'fun'.

17. We split the squirrel clip in two halves and made the second half slower because it was too fast.

Second time editing

The changes that we have made include a 'circular transition' at 0.45 seconds to give this idea of an introduction to the band as a whole performance, which works better than a jump cut as it is too sudden.
You can also see a change in the first chorus as we have changed the video to find one that matched with the lip sync more. We had to split the scenes quite a few times to make sure we got the close up of the tambourine and piano too. We used a 'brightening tool' so that the shift from the park scenes to the performance scenes isn't to drastic and still has a continuity. The lip sync still seems to be out at at 0.56 seconds to 1.02 minutes. We have also taken any unnecessary sounds in the actual video. In this edit you can also see the 'book burning' clip to symbolize the end of a relationship but as the video goes on you can see how they are trying to re-kindle it.

As you can see we changed the performance scenes on both first and second time editing to see which went best with the lip sync. Therefore in the first editing you can see the performance first then Jess playing the piano, whereas in the second edit it shows both the tambourine and piano playing. Unfortunately, we did not have enough footage of the band performance as we had thought as we realized after we uploaded the videos. This means that we would have to compromise and find other footage to fill the gaps.
